Vintage Drink Machine Repair and Restoration

Vendo 39 Full Restoration

I thought we would try to write a little about some of the projects as we do them. The most recent customer pickup was a Vendo 39. This is one of my favorite machines to restore.

Here is some information on the Vendo 39 machine. It holds 39 bottles. It does not hold cans. There are some slim modern plastic bottles that will fit in it. It was produced between 1947 and 1957. You can read about it here. It is very collectible, and it a perfect size for an office or recreational room use. You can get a reproduction drum for it that will allow for larger bottles including long necks. But not this one, we kept this one original.

This project was rewarding. When we got the machine, it had quite a bit of light rust on it. It was missing several parts, including the main drum and indexing unit. Thankfully we were able to locate these parts for the customer.

This restoration was complete, including a new cooling system, new insulation, paint, clear coat, lettering, gaskets, kickplate, and breaker strips. We set it to “free vend” and cleaned up the coin mechanism for cosmetic reasons

Here are a few restoration images of the project.
